This book sets the bar really high for 2015 reading. Not that I don’t enjoy Follett’s epic tomes like The Pillars of the Earth, I am so much more intrigued by the ingenious plot o this book that gave him the breakout into the genre. Eye of the Needle is a spy thriller novel originally published in 1978 by the Penguin Group under the title Storm Island. This novel was Follett’s first successful, bestselling effort as a novelist, and it earned him the 1979 Edgar Award for Best Novel from the Mystery Writers of America. The revised title is an allusion to the “eye of a needle” aphorism. How I love this Signet vintage pock paperback I found at the local used bookstore!
