Give Me 5: 5th Anniversary

The blog turns 5. What was meant to be a chronicle of my thoughts and reflections from reading has turned into a vanity project. The best thing out of this blog is the interaction with fellow readers, who have pointed to me books that I would otherwise not read. On top of blogging about books, I’ve had some fun, some great conversations, been warmly welcomed by the book blogging community—and have met a few of you. I do read and re-read your thoughtful comments, and try to response to all book-related ones promptly.

Although I’ve long been over the days when I was a huge sucker of statistics, getting so caught up with driving more traffic, I still enjoy reading the stats every once in a while (it’s in fact quite addictive). I love that WordPress show me referrers and search engine terms that have lead people to my blog. I tend to get several visits a day from people searching for “white tigers.” As for the most popular search terms, I want to show some interesting stats:

Most popular book-related search terms: white tiger, master and margarita, the boy in the striped pajamas, the stranger, a separate peace, the great gatsby, crime and punishment, their eyes were watching god, beloved, beloved toni morrison

Most popular non-book-related search terms: forbidden city, moleskine, puerto vallarta, abba, lang lang, mattviews, leslie cheung, kinokuniya, de young museum, sandy lam songs

My question for you is, how did you find my blog?

  1. Congratulations! What an accomplishment!

  2. Happy Blogiversary, Matt! 5 years is a relatively long time, at least to me when blogging is concerned. 🙂

    That’s a good question… I think I found your blog through someone else’s link, but I can’t remember who. 😛

  3. Congrats on the your 5!

I am also happy to read your blog.

  4. I found your blog from another person’s blog..it sounded interesting and I’m so glad that I journeyed over your way!! Here’s to many more years of journaling!

  5. Matt,
I think I found your blog through another blog, which seems to be how I find most things on the internet. Endlessly surfing out, out, out…
Best wishes on five years of blogging.

  6. 5 years – what a great achievement, I feel like I have been around for awhile with only 1.5 years under my belt.

I don’t remember how I found you to behonest, but your blog is easily one of very favourites and I hope that you will be around for another 5 years to come.

  7. Congrats Matt…I found your blog through someone else. I’ve enjoyed your reviews for the last 2+ years.

  8. It was via a comment that you’d left on another reader’s site: I’m sorry I don’t remember whose, but something you said piqued my interest. Congrats on five years of great reading: I hope you continue to find pleasure in sharing your bookish thoughts with all of us.

  9. Congratulations on 5 years! That’s a tremendous accomplishment, and I’ll echo the others when I say that yours is one of my favorite blogs. I *think* I found you from BBAW … perhaps as a nominee or a winner in a particular category? Can’t remember which or what year (maybe 2009?) Regardless of how I found you, I’m very glad I did.

  10. Happy Bloggiversary! I found you either through other bloggers, jumping around or something like a Sunday Salon/Booking Through Thursday bit?

  11. Happy bloggiversary!! I found you through other bloggers and Musing Mondays.

  12. happy 5th, many many more to come.

  13. Wow, what an incredibly long time! Happy Blogiversary! And I’m sorry to say I don’t remember how I found your blog, because I have been coming here a very long time!

  14. Happy fifth blogiversary, Matt! I think I discovered your blog over in the comments section over at kiss a cloud, though it’s hard to remember since it’s hard to think of a time when your blog wasn’t part of my consciousness! Here’s to five more great years!

  15. Wow…five years! Congrats! I was a newbie book blogger in 2009 when you were nominated (the category slips my mind) in the BBAW awards. I was checking out blogs to vote for and I liked yours so I followed. The rest is history…LOL! I may not comment much (I’m a terrible lurker), but I am reading…promise. =O)

  16. Congratulations on the 5 years! If anyone ever asks me about the Master and Margarita I always send them your way – it is good to know that google is doing the same thing 🙂

I think I found your blog through Sandy, but I can’t remember the exact circumstance now.

Thanks for recommending so many wonderful books to me over the years 🙂

  17. Congrats on an ardous blogging for 5 years!! I found your blog through someone else’s blog. After all, a blog name which begins with an “A” is always place amongst the first few at the top of the blog roll. LOL 😀

  18. Congrats. Book blogging is one of the most difficult things to do as a blogger. It means you should read, something most people don’t have time doing, and you should read carefully and attentively. You should also dedicate some time to reviewing or talking about the book you are immersed in. Lovely!

You really have done well, and though I am not anywhere near yours I still appreciate the great effort you have put into this.

  19. Congratulations on 5 years of blogging – that is quite an accomplishment! You were one of the first blogs I started following -probably found you through a comment left on another blog. Best wishes for many more!

  20. Sorry I am late to respond! Holy crap, isn’t 5 years like 15 years in blogger time? That is amazing – congrats to you. How did I find you? I think I found you through C.B. James, but I can’t 100% recall. I know I was new to the community, and somehow stumbled on James, then used his blogroll to find others. You were definitely a part of my blogger youth!

  21. I found your blog through Sandy. I either saw a comment of yours on her blog or she had you in the blog roll.. can’t quite remember but I felt that if she followed you, then you must be worth reading.

Just a few weeks of reading your blog confirmed it. Oh, and then getting to know you over the Indie Lit Awards has been fabulous as well. We have very similar reading tastes.

Congrats on 5 years!! I am hitting the 3rd year mark next month.

  22. Congrats on 5 years! Truthfully, I’m not sure how I found your blog, I’m just glad I did. Although if I wager a guess, I’m sure I came across it on another blogger’s blog list – I tend to check those out to discover new blogs. Anyhow, I’ve been reading yours for a few years now and have truly enjoyed it.

  23. Congratulations on 5 years! That’s a big number for a blog. I can’t say where exactly I found your blog but I do remember I found it through a blogroll, though which one I can’t remember.

  24. Congratulations, Matt! I’ve enjoyed your blog. I don’t remember how I found you, but I imagine it was a Moleskine search. Now I’m your fan!

  25. I believe I found your blog through Jackie and Farm Lane Books initially. Regardless, congratulations on five years! I’m not one for keeping track of my own blogoversary, but it’s always nice to celebrate with virtual readers!

  26. Happy Bloggiversary Matt! Your blog is always a delight to read. I think I have been reading your blog pretty much since you started. Looking forward to reading it for many more years.

  27. Happy anniversary – i found it blog hopping around and liked it enough to check in regularly. I like what you have to say.

  28. Happy 5th Matt. Blogging is a tough sport, but I’m so glad you’re doing it. Always great to check in to find out what I should be reading next. Keep up the great work!

  29. That is a good question (how I found your blog). I’ve been reading you for several years now ( I think since 2008). If I recall I would have found a link to your blog from someone else’s blog (wish I could remember who). I do remember why I stayed and put your blog in my Reader. I always look forward to your insightful commentary about books and appreciate that your reading selections are sometimes in common with mine but also quite different from mine. It is a nice balance of feeling a kindred spirit and also having you stretch me to read new things. I wish you all the best on your 5th year blogiversary!

  30. Happy 5th year of blogging, Matt! I found you through Tuesday’s blog, and so very glad of it. Cheers!

  31. A little bit belated, but congratulations on keeping up with the blog for so long. Cheers for a great review of the Master and Margarita – I look forward to reading your thoughts on Wolf Hall.
