Double Cravings

I headed to Clement Street for Burmese food and the ultimate guilty-pleasure-slash-comfort-sweet-calling: Japanese crepe with banana, nutella and coconut ice cream at Genki. Craving fulfilled ten bites later. But there was an inner craving yet to be fulfilled since I was under the influence of the magnetic field of Green Apple Books. I was rifling the bargain trucks outside and in two minutes I found two books that have been on my radar:

The Wilderness: A Novel Samantha Harvey
The Likeness: A Novel Tana French

Since today’s purpose is not to browse the entire collection, I wasn’t plan on looting books. But Green Apple has just wielded the power that it is absolutely impossible to keep my purse string tight.

  1. Those are both great finds and now I want a bite of your Japanese crepe!!

  2. You shouldnt put the word purse strings and tight together when it comes to books. Just accept that its impossible and dont go anywhere near a bookshop second hand or new “just to browse” – it wont happen! the browsing only I mean.

    • LOL Exactly. No matter how casual and short the visit, I would always buy something. One one occasion I left the store empty handed, and that was when Steph and Tony came to visit. We went to Green Apple and they walked away with bags of loots. But I had just brought home a case of books from the library sale!

  3. Seriously, I want to have Tana French’s baby. The Likeness was the first one I read of hers (I suppose I should have read In the Woods first but there you go). She creates literary thrillers that make me swoon. I really have been wanting to read The Wildnerness as well. Jackie rated it very highly, and I lost my grandmother to Alzheimer’s so it got my attention. And I gained five pounds just looking at that wonderful dessert!

    • I just had the same concern after I brought The Likeness home. Should I read In the Woods first because the blurb of Likeness does mention the story takes place after the former. I enjoyed The Wilderness but am not calling home about it.

  4. I’m not sure which I’d rather snuggle up with: the banana chocolate crepe or Tana French….hmmm…

    • How wonderful that this crepe can be found near my all-time favorite bookstore. How not so wonderful that I can’t have this crepe as often as I visit the bookstore!

  5. Both the books and the food look delicious… I will say that I know the Tana French is fabulous, and I wish there were somewhere here in town where I could get such a scrumptious sweet treat as that crepe!

    • I don’t know why I didn’t take you and Tony to Genki Crepes since it’s just a block from Green Apple. Maybe because we were just so full from dim sums and you were occupied with the bargains at the bookstore! Next time! 🙂

  6. I have The Likeness on my soon-to-be-read list. After In the Woods, I can’t wait to see what French does in this novel.

  7. It is hard to resist either of those images. Perhaps you can eat your dessert while you read?

    • That’s a great idea. While I can’t have a crepe every time I read, I’ll have a cup of tasty latte instead. By the way, how did shopping go in Union Square?

      • Hi Matt, I never made it up to Union Square this year. I’m sad because I always make a point to get up to the city for the holidays. But I’ll be in SF again soon…hopefully!
