I was looking for a novella by Miguel de Cervantes, The Dialogue of the Dogs, in which two dogs set to satirize humans through the observation of their masters. Skimming through the book reveals some parallelism to Heart of a Dog by Mikhail Bulgakov and evokes sweet memories of the narrating canine, Enzo, in The Art of Racing in the Rain. But I ended up buying these eight novellas–How can you resist these neat covers? Thanks to Melville House Publishing’s effort to restore these classics short fiction.

You are right – I would not be able to resist those covers. Also, I like novellas way more than I like short stories, so even though their short, I would still find them satisfying.
Hmm. Well, I’d just prefer it if they weren’t sold individually. Novellas sold alone are often way too overpriced. These are all very attractive covers, though, and I’m curious to read some of these works.
I think if I had seen those covers I would have been powerless to resist. So now if I am in any shops and see anything like this I will just close my eyes (and possibly knock a huge book display down).
Yeah, I’d have given in, too. I can’t wait to hear about them!

Hahaha, I have to say, I like almost none of these authors, but if I had seen these books in such pretty covers, I’d probably have bought them too.
Cool covers! I would have bought them too! They should all be such great reads! Looking forward to hearing about them.
Thank you, that was the Cervantes title recommended to me! I should add that to the List before I forget it again.
Very appealing-looking- recognizable and collectible!
I’m glad that you added to your stash!!
Those Melville House novellas are great; that’s how I discovered Guy de Maupassant’s “The Horla” (a spooky vampire tale).
Steph:
I enjoy reading “long” short stories (40+ pages) and that novellas stand alone as one literary entity suits me fine.
Biblibio:
Have you checked out the Penguin “Love Series” that feature short fiction? I think you can purchase those titles in a set. These, however, are recently released, and as more titles are to become available, you have to buy them individually.
Simon:
Actually you will be very interested in some of these titles I list. Try The Dialogue of the Dogs and Bonsai.
Lezlie:
An indie features these cute neat short fiction on a shelf near the doorway. They are impossible to miss. So catchy and yet so clean.
Jenny:
Try the MHP Books official website for full catalogue. You might find something you like.
Nadia:
Yes they are so neat aren’t they? I think you can finish some of these all in one sitting. I plan to attack a few of these next week.
Mish:
Me too! And then I started browsing through all these titles in the series.
Marie:
The design is so clean and simple that makes these books great collectible!
Staci,:
With these and the new books I posted recently, I’ve got enough to keep myself entertained for a couple months.
Greg:
Yes they look just great. They should make a notebook out of these covers.
I have bought a bunch of these “Art of the Novella” books. I especially liked The Eternal Husband, can’t wait to hear what you think!
Those are absolutely gorgeous. Where did you buy them?!
Those are nice looking! I love having special editions or those by certain publishers all together on the shelves. I’m thinking of the Persephone books or the NYRB Classics books. They just look so good together.
Jen:
I haven’t read Eternal Husband in school (did my graduate work in Russian and Comp. Lit) so that catches my attention right away.
lena:
The local indie is featuring the series so I just pull them off the book table.
iliana:
yes, all these series feature clean and neat design. It’s worthy of collecting them, let alone reading.
